A Review – SSVI TYR Glock Trigger

Glock Pistols are one of the top selling combative handguns and dominate the law enforcement world.  Out of the box, the Glock is reliable and inherently accurate pistol.  One of the major complaints, besides the grip angle, is the trigger.  While the OEM trigger is well suited for the pistol, the SSVI TYR Trigger is an outstanding enhancement.

SSVI, a company owned and operated by Damon Young stands for Speed, Surprise, Violence of Action Industries.  From the website, “The SSVi TYR Trigger was designed from the ground up to be the next evolution in an EDC/Duty trigger, refining what we know and love about the predictability of the OEM Glock Trigger.  It maintains all the current safeties built into the Glock Safe Action System, and increases the leverage when actuating the trigger to enhance the user experience.”

While the trigger I tested is in a duty gun, I did not complete a torture test to see if I could get the trigger safety to disengage, however, I did complete drop tests from various heights.  The trigger safety worked as designed and with my upmost confidence.  I have fired approximately 3300 rounds on my Glock 34 with the TYR Trigger and have not had a single issue.  I like the trigger so much that I purchased a second one for my Glock 19LS.  I will soon have to purchase another for my Glock 17.

The trigger shoe is not a true flat trigger and still maintains a slight curve.  The trigger is slightly wider than the stock trigger shoe lending for ideal placement of the trigger finger.  The trigger sets back and feels more 1911 like which allows more leverage and those with smaller hands to reach the trigger more efficiently.   The trigger ships with a trigger bar (Gens 1-4) that is factory.  The trigger bar has not been polished.  After putting the trigger in my G34, I conducted dryfire practice before live fire shooting.  The trigger was smooth, with a clean crisp break and felt like a shorter reset.  On a Lyman Digital Trigger Pull Gauge, the trigger broke with an average of 5.29 pounds.  My preferred setup with the TYR Trigger is the addition of the Zev Technologies Pro Connector.  This combination provided a 10 pull average of 4.89 pounds with outstanding reliability.

While conducting the testing of the trigger, a fellow co-worker who suffers from arthritis in the hands, shot 50 rounds on the trigger during a range session.  He stated he was able to press the trigger with little issues from the arthritis and gained considerable accuracy over the stock trigger.  The TYR Trigger has allowed him to shoot more confidently and comfortably.  He now has a TYR in his duty pistol.  The key to accurate fire is a proper grip and pressing the trigger without disturbing the sights.  This trigger greatly enhances the ability for accurate shots on target.  Like many dietary supplements, the shooter must do their part.  It is not a “fix-all” accuracy pill.  This photo is 50 rounds on a B8.  25 rounds from 10 yards and 25 rounds from 15 yards.
